Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 to the musically inclined family of Newark New Jersey is the daughter of Gospel star Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. Also, she is the sister of the singer Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney, she began singing with the church choir in the early years of her childhood. At the age 15 she accompanied her mother the background vocals for Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. Then, she performed background vocals for Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls and even her mother. The vocals she sang with the New York-based band Material attracted major record labels such as Arista. They signed her with Arista in 1983 where she spent the remainder of her professional career. Whitney Houston became the top-selling debut single for a new artist in the year. Tracks like the title track, The Greatest Love of All, How Will I Know If You Give Love and the song Saving the Day and All My Love were all released from the album. These songs allowed Houston to reach seven US top tens, which surpassed even the top tens of The Beatles. The album came out in 1987 and has sold more than 25 million copies across the globe. The Whitney 1987 album, with Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as popular songs, was a way to build on the successes she'd had. But the 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot as one of the most successful musicians of all-time. Although the film and the performances in it weren't widely praised the soundtrack album and her version of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You was the top of the singles and albums charts for a period of time and sold over 44 million copies across the world. That same year she married former New Edition star Bobby Brown with whom she had her only child their child Bobbi Kristina Brown in March 1993. In the same year, her drug abuse became well documented and she started using it daily by 1996.
